Oscars 2023 nominations list: India bags 3, RRR's Naatu Naatu, The Elephant Whisperers, All That Breathe

India has been nominated for three Oscars in 2023. RRR's song Naatu Naatu was nominated for Best Original Song, The Elephant Whisperers was nominated for Best Documentary Short Film, and Shaunak Sen's documentary All That Breathes was nominated for Best Documentary Feature Film.

Rajamouli's magnum opus RRR, starring Ram Charan and NTR Jr, is projected to receive several nominations due to its highly publicised Oscar campaign, which lasted from the latter part of last year to the beginning of 2023. The film's creators had entered it in several categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor. It was, however, not chosen as India's Oscar nominee. Instead, India contributed Chhello Show, which made the Best International Film shortlist.

The Oscars 2023 will be held on Sunday, March 12, in the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. Jimmy Kimmel returns as host, having previously led the awards event in 2017 and 2018. After being host-less for the previous two years, the Oscars reverted to a host format last year with Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes, and Regina Hall.

Meanwhile, critically praised films such as The Fabelmans, Everything Everywhere At Once, Top Gun Maverick, The Banshees of Inisherin, Elvis, Avatar: The Way of Water, Aftersun, and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery are being tipped as Best Picture contenders. Brendan Fraser, Colin Farrell, and Austin Butler are almost certain to get Oscar nominations for Best Actor. Meanwhile, The Daniels, Steven Spielberg, and James Cameron, among others, are expected to compete for the Best Director award.

The Oscar nominations were revealed at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater, with actors Riz Ahmed and Allison Williams hosting the event.
