With lockdown restrictions on weddings, community halls’ workers suffer

Wedding halls wore a deserted look despite the permission to hold marriages with only 50 members in attendance. With local MLA and leaders not coming to help, the staff  of community halls is worried and dependent on donors for groceries and vegetables in Bengaluru’s Shivajinagar

Bengaluru: Staff working at community halls in and around Bengaluru’s Shivajinagar is left in the lurch as the Congress MLA and leaders allegedly supply ration kits and provide other benefits only to their supporters. Shaik Mastan Ali, a JD(S) leader, who was ignored during the Assembly by-election in December 2019, has turned out to be a saviour for 300 affected families. He has been providing them groceries and vegetables for the last two months.

Ali, an event management company owner, said he is contemplating to meet Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddiyurappa to get permission to hold weddings with the presence of at least 500 members as it will help both the public as well as the community halls’ owners. Since there are restrictions on big gatherings and only 50 members are allowed, many families have either postponed or held weddings at homes. This has put many lives dependent on marriage halls at stake.
