In a bizarre but tragic incident, a male leopard was found electrocuted atop an electric pole in Telangana’s Nizamabad district.

The incident occurred in Mallapuram village, about 18 km from Nizamabad town, on Monday, July 3, 201. Pictures of the leopard stuck between the wires of the pole started doing rounds in social media. The Forest Department officials confirmed the news to Telangana Today.

Nizamabad District Forest Officer Prasad said the authorities are trying to find out how the leopard reached the top of the electric pole. They said the area of the incident is an agricultural field, and not a forest land, although the forest area is just a few hundred metres away.

The officials have confirmed that the villagers have been complaining of such wild cat sightings in the area and that this is not a case of poaching.

Forest officials brought down the carcas, following which a post-mortem was conducted by a veterinary surgeon. The body was burnt later.

A leopard was brutally killed in July last year where the wild cat and her cub's carcas were found near Khammam district in Telangana. The paws of one of the leopards had been chopped.
