More than 200 prisoners convicted for life are likely to walk free this Republic Day. The only criteria for their release is good conduct and completion of at least 7 years in prison. According to Deccan Chronicle, the committee, chaired by inspector-general of prisons Akula Narasimha, has submitted a report to the director-general of prisons Vinoy Kumar Singh.
Singh said over 200 prisoners would be relaxed under remission. He said, "We have already prepared recommendations with the list of identified prisoners. We are sending the list to government and the home department may make modifications."
