Taking a dig at Telangana Congress' bus yatra, Minister for IT and Municipal Administration KT Rama Rao on Wednesday, said that the Opposition party leaders participating in the bus yatra were like ‘Ali Baba and the 40 thieves’.

The minister made this remark while inaugurating water treatment plant at Chilpakuntla village, reported the New Indian Express.

“I  got remembered of Alibaba and 40 thieves after looking at the bus yatra by Congress leaders.  The bus yatra leaders have a criminal background,” he was quoted as saying by the NIE.

Talking about the water treatment plant in a district that has seen close to two lakh fluorosis victims, the minister said, “The Congress which ruled undivided Andhra Pradesh for 55 years is responsible for the issue. There was no fluoride issue in the district when Telangana was merged with united Andhra Pradesh. No Congress leader from the district has raised his voice either in the State Legislature or outside for supply of safe drinking water in fluoride affected areas.”

This comes after Congress chief Uttam Kumar Reddy announced that he will retire from politics if Congress did not come to power in the next elections.

However, he also challenged chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to make a similar statement.
