Virat Kumble spat intensifies BCCIs big three to mediate

Trouble is brewing in the Indian camp as Captain Virat Kohli and some other players are unhappy with Anil Kumble as their head coach. And BCCI has entrusted its advisory committee comprising of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman to broker a peace deal between the two sides.

Apparently, Kohli and the team do not like his hard ways of coaching and were more comfortable with Ravi Shastri's style of coaching.

BCCI had opened the position of the coach and made an announcement on Thursday, asking interested candidates to apply. But they had also stated that Kumble would get a direct entry into the final selection. Virender Sehwag was considered a tough competitor for his former teammate. It is said that BCCI was not happy with Kumble after he asked for a fee hike in central contracts of players and himself. And although he had asked for a 25% fee hike for Captain Kohli, the captain himself is not happy with Kumble’s style of working.
It is said that Kohli also had a word with Sourav Ganguly during a practice session for the Champions Trophy.

However, Anil Kumble has been garnering support from different corners of the cricketing world. The Lodha Committee has admonished the BCCI for inviting applications despite Kumble’s brilliant track record as a coach. Former India coach John Wright said that the Indian team is lucky to have a coach like Anil Kumble.

Recently BCCI came around and offered to extend Kumble’s tenure as head coach until the end of World Cup 2019. Kumble’s contract was to end right after the Champions Trophy this year. This move by the BCCI has not gone down well with the players. And hence Vinod Rai, chairman of the Committee of Administrators (COA) will meet the advisory panel to discuss and find a way to resolve this issue.
