Karnataka’s Venkatesh Prasad joins the race for India’s head coach

FollowAfter Anil Kumble quit his job as Indian team coach, Karnataka’s very own Venkatesh Prasad is joining the race along with Ravi Shastri, for the post of India’s head coach.
According to a report published by The Times of India, former India seamer Venkatesh Prasad, who is currently a part of junior national chief selector, is the latest candidate.
However, there is no official confirmation given by the 47-year-old about the development. He will be competing with the likes of Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Lalchand Rajput and Dodda Ganesh.
Venkatesh Prasad, who represented India in 33 Tests and 162 ODIs, will finish his tenure as India’s junior chief selector later this month. This has favored him to apply for the post as the last date for the selection of Indian coach is due on July 9, 2017.
With regards to Ravi Shastri’s decision to apply for the job, it was none other than Sachin Tendulkar who persuaded Shastri to fill the gap of Kumble. Also, during the coach selection process that took place last year, Tendulkar was in favour of Shastri. But the other two veterans of Indian cricket, V.V.S Laxman and Sourav Gangully, had voted for ‘The Jumbo.’
As compared to other candidates who might apply for the job this year, Shastri has a big advantage in securing the post easily. The obvious reason is because he has ‘King Kohli’ backing him.
But Venkatesh Prasad’s coaching experience might come to his rescue. He was the man behind the bowling unit of India during 2007 T20 World Cup. He is also the bowling coach for Royal Challengers.
Cricket fans from Karnataka - who were upset that their local lad Kumble was retiring as coach, can be satisfied if Prasad replaces the empty post.
