It was a large shock to Karnataka after the two-member bench of the Supreme Court directed Karnataka to release 6,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu for seven days. Also, in a complete disadvantage to Karnataka, it asked the Centre to form the Cauvery Management Board.

Here are the reasons why Karnataka is against the constitution of the Cauvery Management Board:

  • If the Cauvery Management Board is constituted, Karnataka will lose all rights regarding the river.
  • All decisions on water-sharing will be taken by the Centre as the Board is constituted by it.
  • The Centre to appoint chiefs and members of the Board.
  • All reservoirs in the Cauvery basin will come under the Board.
  • Membership to water experts from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala.
