At a time when women's security has become a growing concern in India, Gandhian Studies Centre at Alphonsa College, Pala, has decided to conduct a gender sensitising programme for boys. The programme aims to teach boys to develop an ability to empathise, understand and share the feelings of women.

The programme will be implemented in collaboration with 'Action Break Silence', a London-based NGO. The workshop named 'Super Hero' will be held for young boys from 5th to 7th standards. Psychologists and specialists will attend the workshop and give guidance to students.

"It is clear that women empowerment is not enough to prevent abusive behaviour against girls. This programme aims to break down stereotypes and help boys understand importance of gender equality. It also aims to help boys, who are also equally vulnerable to crimes and abuses," Teresa Joseph, director of Gandhian Studies Centre said.

The workshop will be held for five days from January 9 to 13.

Boys will get a chance to talk about sexual violence against boys and girls. This will help them prevent violent behaviour towards girls and women and turn into positive role models who care about their safety and well-being. Classes will be organised from 10am to 3.30 pm under the supervision of psychologists.
