According to records, the Middle-East had a small Brahmin community in the 6th Century.  Among them, Rahab Dutt was blessed with sons after appealing to Iman Hussain.  Since then, they have been loyal to both Shite and Hindu customs.

India thrives on religion and social groups with several unique communities. One such little-known community is the Hussaini Brahmins.

According to historical records, Rahab Dutt - a childless Brahmin - claimed that he had seven sons thanks to the blessing of Imam Hussain (from Iran) in 670 AD.

As Dutt was blessed with kids, he and many members of his community, pledged their loyalty to the Prophet's grandson, Al-Husayn, and travelled to fight in the famous Battle of Karbala (in Iraq) against the Yazid.

Dutt's sons were martyred in the battle.

Seeing his love and commitment towards the Prophet's family, Imam Hussain is said to have conferred him the title of Sultan and sent him back to India.

His descendants continued to flourish in Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Lahore in Pakistan with family names like Bakshi, Chibber, Bali and Dutt. During the tenth day of Murraham, many of these 'Hussaini Brahmins' take part in the procession, despite following Hindu customs as well.
