Andhra Pradesh: Cops step forward, pool money to fix potholes on roads

When no one, including the government, seemed to address the situation, many samaritans stepped forward and took it upon themselves to restore the roads.Â
A similar incident occurred in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. According to media reports, police officers took it upon themselves to respond to citizens' cries and the fatal depressions on the Nuzvid highway, including areas such as Vissannapeta, Mylavaram and Agiripalli.

Speaking to the media, Nuzvid DSP B Srinivasulu stated that the roads mentioned are accident-prone locations where several incidents have already been documented. According to the DSP, the three routes account for 30 per cent of all incidents. The SHOs of several police stations located the potholes and other accident-prone sites, compiled a thorough report, and presented it to the DSP. Later, they split the bill and got to work on the repairs.
Many construction workers lent a helping hand and freely volunteered labour to assist the squad. Many young people were also recruited to help with the repairs.
The officers were able to repair 25 potholes in a single day.

Another heartwarming story includes an elderly couple from Hyderabad who fix as many potholes in their city as they can. For the past 11 years, the couple has repaired potholes and levelled the roads with their own money.
