Kumaraswamy says PM-KISAN scheme did not benefit people; BJP calls him ‘liar’
Under the PM-KISAN scheme, more than 12 crore farmers are expected to reap benefits. But, Kumaraswamy alleged that this scheme did not benefit anyone apart from six families.
Bengaluru: Targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi on PM-KISAN scheme, chief minister HD Kumaraswamy on Sunday (March 31) reportedly said that only six families out of the list of 10 lakh farmers' families he had sent had reaped the benefits of the plan.
"Modi, who came to power five years ago with a lot of promises, is a big liar. One instance is enough to prove this. We decided to waive loans worth Rs 45,000 crore. But Modi said this was a lollipop and had not benefited anybody. But I want to tell you that 44 lakh people are benefiting," the chief minister reportedly said in a joint rally with his coalition partner, Congress.
"We have brought schemes for the welfare of the farmers in the budget. We ensure the farmer is not indebted instead of loan waiver. We sent details of 10 lakh farmer families, but only six families have been provided the benefit under the PM KISAN Yojana," he said.
Under PM-KISAN scheme, an amount of Rs 2,000 each in three instalments will be transferred directly to the bank account of beneficiaries through the Direct Benefits Transfer scheme. More than 12 crore farmers are expected to reap the benefits of this scheme.
Former Prime Minister and JDS supremo HD Deve Gowda said: "For the first time, the leaders of both parties decided to join hands under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi to bring a change in the country."
"The BJP was in power in Kashmir for three and a half years, and the state plunged into chaos. The youths have hit the streets. This coalition government has proved how it can work, and we will win all 28 seats in the state," he said.
Speaking to Newsable, BJP MLA CN Ashwath Narayan said, “Kumaraswamy is known for lying. He always gives false statements. There is no space for discrimination here. Whoever has sent their forms before elections code of conduct will receive benefits. Basically, we have to reach out across the country. The intention of this program is to reach out to farmers. While Karnataka supports the BJP, Kumaraswamy is trying to create a breach of trust between the people and the BJP. His statements are nothing but lies.”
