The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has increased the toll charges for vehicles heading for Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). The new rates are effective from today, April 1.

The new rates are applicable till March 31, 2020. The NHAI has clarified that this is a routine annual hike.

Those passing from NH 44 will have to shell out more at Sadahalli Plaza tollgate. Now, one has to pay Rs 90 for a single trip of car (earlier it was Rs 85). For double trip, car owners will have to pay Rs 135 (a hike of Rs 5).

Cars with monthly passes also will have to pay Rs 3,020 as against Rs 2,895 paid till March.

The new rates will also affect the public vehicles including buses. According to the new rates, buses will have to pay Rs 280 for a single trip and Rs 420 including the return journey. There is an increase of Rs 10 on single journey and Rs 15 two-way trip.

The monthly passes for the buses will cost Rs 9,330.

The increase in toll charges might also lead to increase in the rates of bus tickets. The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has not made any announcements in this regard. But a price hike is likely.
