FollowIn an incident shrouded in mystery, a Yuva Morcha leader from Palakkad died on Thursday after he was found with severe burns in Attingal near Thiruvananthapuram.
Sajin Raj alias Lalu, who hails from Ottapalam, was found in a charred condition near the Mamam bridge in Attingal by a passer-by around 6 am on Thursday. Though the police soon rushed Sajin to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries by 3.30 pm.
Sajin is Yuva Morcha's Palakkad district secretary. He was found near an abandoned car, which was later found to be rented by him from a Karamana native a few months ago. Sajin's friends said he had left from Ottapalam for Thiruvananthapuram in the same car on Wednesday evening.
The police recovered a can of petrol, a matchbox and a note allegedly written by Sajin from the car. The police first suspected that Sajin drove till there, parked the car and set himself ablaze.
However, Sajin had reportedly told the Medical College staff that some people stopped his car near the bridge and set him on fire. Also in the note recovered from the car, Sajin claims someone cheated him of Rs 3 lakh.
Forensic experts visited the scene of crime. The body has been sent for post-mortem. Sajin's family members insist that he would not commit suicide and has alleged foul play in the death.
