- Sreenivasan said that there is no evidence of exploitation of women in return for roles in Malayalam films
- WCC had earlier said that women, especially aspiring actors, were sexually exploited in the industry
- Innocent had said that there is no such thing as casting couch but bad women may be going to bed
Actor-director Sreenivasan has said that he has never come across any instance of casting couch in Malayalam cinema industry.
The veteran was responding to a statement of Women's Collective in Cinema (WCC) the association of female artists and technicians in Malayalam cinema that women were sexually exploited in the industry.
Sreenivasan, who has been part of the industry for over 40 years, said that there is no evidence of exploitation of women in return for roles in Malayalam films.
Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) president Innocent too has said that the industry was free from sexual abuse menace and following this WCC, on its Facebook page, wrote that most aspiring actresses had been subjected different kinds of abuses. They also claimed that the comments of Innocent were an eyewash and said that the practice of casting couch existed in Malayalam film industry and sought help from the government to probe the aspect.
Innocent had during a press meet arranged at his house said that there is no such thing as casting couch in Malayalam film industry but bad women may be going to bed.
Sreenivasan refused to comment on the stance of AMMA in actress abuse case but said that the association is doing nothing significant than offering financial assistance to some members who are in dire straits.
