ISIS links: NIA conducts raids in TN, Kerala, three arrested

NIA three arrested ISIS links Alappuzha

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) took three persons into custody over suspected links with Islamic State (ISIS). They were arrested following raids conducted in Coimbatore and Alappuzha.

Two among the arrested are Coimbatore natives while one is from Alappuzha. The NIA team had raided the house of Alappuzha native on Thursday after receiving permission from the NIA court.

As per reports, the officials seized pen drives, DVDs, CDs and pamphlets that prove his connection with the ISIS. The NIA sleuths also got evidence to prove that the Alappuzha native was constantly communicating with ISIS member Abdul Rashid, who is from Kashmir.

It is suspected that he had links with the ISIS operatives arrested from Kanakamala in Kannur.

The searches were conducted as part of the investigation into Omar Al-Hindi module case. The NIA had filed charge sheet was filed under various provisions of IPC besides UAPA against six arrested persons besides Shajeer Mangalassery, who was absconding. Shajeer was suspected to have hatched a criminal conspiracy against the state and formed a terrorist gang to further the objectives of ISIS.

On investigation, it was found that Shajeer was one of the key recruits for the ISIS from Kerala.

Meanwhile, Kannur native Shajahan, who was arrested in Delhi, revealed that the terrorist organisation had planned attacks in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Shajahan had also said that the ISIS had targeted senior political leaders, High Court judges and some other prominent persons in the state.
