A man met with tragic death near Coimbatore on Sunday after the Kochi-bound car he was travelling in caught fire. He saved his wife and two children from the burning car but died in the fire as he could not undo his seat belt on time.

Dileep Kumar Gowda, 38, a Bengaluru-based jeweller and a native of Kolar, was going to Kochi along with his family when his car's engine suddenly caught fire at a toll gate in Madukkarai, near the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border. 

Dileep managed to push his wife and two children out of the car. However, he could not unfasten his seat belt on time and was burnt to death as the flames spread rapidly. 

The woman and her children were hospitalised and are now fine. The police are investigating the cause of the fire.
