Kannur native with ISIS connection arrested in Delhi

A native from Kannur, Kerala, who is suspected to be an ISIS operative was arrested by Delhi police from Indira Gandhi International Airport. The police acted on a tip-off received from United States' Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

The accused was on his way to Turkey and had arrived from Syria. He was detained with a fake passport.

Last year, NIA had arrested Muhammed Haneef, a recruiter for ISIS, from Peringathoor in Kannur. He had recruited 21 persons from the state.

US Treasury Department had announced IS operative Mohammed Shafi Amar a global terrorist in June. Amar, born in Bhatkal in Karnataka is the head recruiter for the terror outfit in India after the death of his brother Sultan Amar in March 2015.

Intelligence agencies found that Shafi Amar, often called as Anjan Bhai, Chhote Maula and Yousuf al-Hindi has recruited almost 30 Indians for the ISIS.
