High Court upholds eviction notice of Devikulam sub Collector

In what comes as a big blow to the stance taken by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Kerala High Court dismissed a plea challenging the eviction of a private homestay in Munnar. The court upheld an order issued by Devikulam Sub-Collector to recover the land of Love Dale, the homestay.

As per the order government can take over the building and 22 cents of land adjacent to it. Responding to the verdict, Revenue Minister E Chandrasekharan said that the government would continue with eviction drive.

Local leaders of Munnar had approached CM soon after Sub-Collector served an eviction notice to resort. Following this Pinarayi informed that an all-party meeting would be arranged to discuss the matter.

However, CPI was not happy with the decision and decided to stay away from the meet. The Revenue Minister himself abstained from attending the meeting as it was convened solely on the basis of a complaint filed by encroacher.
