Godman case: No lie detector test as woman fails to appear in court

The POCSO court in Thiruvananthapuram has decided not to conduct a lie detector test on the woman, who was involved in the godman bobbiting case, after she failed to turn up for the hearing.

Reprimanding the woman for not appearing to clarify whether she is ready to undergo a lie detector test, the court ended all proceedings in connection with the petition filed by the probe team. The judge said the court cannot take further action in the matter without the permission of the woman.

The court also warned the woman's counsel that the case will be rejected if she does not appear for further proceedings. The case was assigned to the POCSO court after the woman filed a police complaint against godman Sreehari aka Swami Gangeshananda, saying he had misbehaved with her ever since she was a minor.  

With the court ending further proceedings in connection with the lie detector test, it will be interesting to know what the probe team's new approach to the case will be.

Two weeks ago, the court had pulled up the woman for retracting her statements in the case frequently. Rejecting her petition asking for a CBI probe, the court had stated that she wasted the court's time by submitting unwanted petitions.

The controversial case, which grabbed national headlines, has undergone a few twists and turns since the incident took place in Pettah near Thiruvananthapuram on May 18.
