Dileep arrest: A look at Mollywood and its mafia connections

Malayalam film industry, which was already under the arc light after the abduction and attack of the actress but the arrest of Dileep points to its underworld links. The burning question is why those working in film sector are allowing people with criminal antecedents to get close and work with them. 

Pulsar Suni, the prime accused in actress attack case no doubt is a thug. But his connection with several persons in film industry came as a surprise after his arrest. He was once the driver of actor-turned-politician Mukesh. After the arrest, Mukesh explained that he didn't know about the criminal background of the accused who served as his driver for over two years. 

It is a known fact that several persons in the film industry are associating with the underworld. The goondas are a regular presence in film shooting locations where production unit hires them to keep situations under control, usually to keep the fans away. Actors appointing persons with a criminal background as their bodyguards or drivers are also quite common. 

Soon after the incident of actress attack and Pulsar Suni's involvement in the case came to light, there were reports that he had earlier tried to abduct another actress, but mistakenly took actor Menaka, who escaped his grip on understanding the trap. However, she did not file any complaint, and the incident went unnoticed. 

Another report that pointed to underworld connection of actors was the report that Nayanthara's driver cum bodyguard Sethu, is a murder accused. According to reports, he committed a murder during his tenure as the driver of the actress and still continues in the post.

There were reports that the youth who appeared as a chain snatcher in Nivin Pauly starrer Action Hero Biju was arrested for the same crime, chain snatching. Ajith, 27, popularly known as 'Thavala Ajith' was already involved in several other cases. He was the member of a six-member racket that carried out as many as 136 chain snatching in a span of five years. 

Another person in his gang was Vishnu, 29, who was the jail inmate of Pulsar Suni. Police had found that Vishnu knew Suni even before they met in jail. 

Bodyguards often called as bouncers were present even at the general body meet of AMMA, which was held at Crown Plaza in Kochi. This proves that Malayalam film industry is yet to learn that their unholy nexus with people with the criminal background has started to backlash at them.
