Dileep apologises for statement on abducted actress

A day after his controversial statement that the actress, who was abducted and assaulted, was a close friend of the prime accused in the case, Dileep on Thursday apologised to her and said that he did not intend to hurt anyone. Dileep explained that he did not comment against the actress and his statements were distorted.

"All I said was to be careful while selecting friends. I was just saying about making friends while working together. My words were distorted, and all of you know that. I have already apologised to her in case any of my comments have hurt her," he told media persons. Dileep was speaking to media after attending the general body meeting of Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA).

Meanwhile, actor Innocent, who is the president of the organisation, said the meeting did not discuss on actor abduction case. Actor Rima Kallingal, who represents Women in Cinema Collective also said that the matter did not come up in the meeting.

"AMMA stands with Dileep and actress, who are victims of the incident. We won't allow anyone to attack our members. Both are AMMA's kids and are suffering at the moment. The organisation will support them," vice president K B Ganesh Kumar said.

Meanwhile, actor turned politician Mukesh said that Women in Cinema Collective is not against AMMA and one of its members, who attended the general body meeting of AMMA requested their support.

Dileep had earlier said that the actress and prime accused Pulsar Suni were good friends. He also said that one should be careful while selecting friends.

Following this, the actress issued a written statement to the media. In her statement, the actress stated that she was deeply hurt by the comment of Dileep and might even think of taking legal steps against the statement.

The abduction case turned murkier after director Nadirshah and Dileep came up with an allegation that he received a call from one of the aids of Pulsar Suni. He told media persons that Suni's aid asked him to tell Dileep to pay ₹1.5 crore.

Police arrested Vishnu, jail inmate of Pulsar Suni and another person in connection with blackmailing incident on Sunday.

On Wednesday, investigation team questioned Dileep for over 12 hours. After this, Dileep told reporters that the interrogation was based on his complaint about a blackmailing threat. But contradicting his statement, police said that he was questioned over his alleged involvement in actress abduction case.

Ernakulam Rural SP A V George also stated that the police would again question Dileep as his statements lacked clarity. "We are yet to register a case in the complaint filed by Dileep and is still looking into conspiracy angle. However, we don't have any evidence to register a case against the actor," he said.
