CPM councillor Binu, 3 others arrested for attack on BJP office in TVM

The Kerala police on Friday arrested CPM councillor IP Binu and three other party workers for attacking the BJP state headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram.

The police have registered a case against the accused and an investigation is underway. Binu has also been suspended by the CPM for his involvement in the attack.

CCTV visuals show Binu arriving at the BJP office around 1.20 am on Friday with a baseball bat on a two-wheeler. Soon after, some of his accomplices also turned up, entered the office compound and smashed the window panes of six vehicles including that of BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekheran. The group then stoned the building.

The visuals show a police jeep parked near the BJP office. Barring a policeman who tried to dissuade Binu, three other officials moved away and watched on without trying to save their colleague who was kicked and pushed around by the CPM workers. Two of them have now been suspended.

Meanwhile, the Thiruvananthapuram police has declared Section 79 of the Kerala Police Act in the state capital to prevent demonstrations, protect marches and meetings till July 30.
