CPM BJP hold peace talks Kannur agree end political violence

In a pioneering move, the CPM and the BJP leaders came together in Kannur and decided to make a concentrated effort in keeping violence out of political conflicts between activists of their cadre.

The decision was taken at a meeting held between the two parties in Kannur on Saturday. CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, district secretary P Jayarajan, BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan, RSS leader P Gopalan Kutty and district president K Ranjith took part in the meeting.

Both sets of leaders pledged to take measures to curb recurrence of political violence and urge their party workers not to blow incidents out of proportion. Should any kind of disputes emerge in the future, the regional units should make sure that they don't boil over, it was decided.

Kummanam and Kodiyeri said it is high time the parties took steps moves to prevent any more bloodshed. CPM and BJP will soon convene meeting of grass-root level workers under each regional unit. Meetings will be held at Payyannur and Thalassery in the district.
