Former state police chief TP Senkumar was arrested and let off on bail on Sunday in connection with a case against him for making comments that allegedly instigate communal tension and religious hatred.

Senkumar was let off on a personal bond of Rs 50,000. This is the first time that an arrest has been registered against a DGP from the Kerala cadre. 

High Court grants anticipatory bail to former DGP Senkumar

Senkumar made the remarks in question during an interview he gave to an online Malayalam magazine. The interview had caused an outrage as the former state police chief made some controversial remarks on some minority communities.

The case against Senkumar was registered by the cyber cell in Thiruvananthapuram on complaints from various sectors. Senkumar had appeared before the cyber cell on July 29. He was let off after questioning as the High Court had granted anticipatory bail to him.

Meanwhile, investigation is on to find out if Senkumar made derogatory remarks against the victim of the Kochi actress attack during the same interview.
