The Special Investigation Team (SIT,) probing the Kochi actress attack case, is all set to submit the much-awaited additional charge sheet in the case within the next two days.

According to police sources, actor Dileep, who was arrested on charges of conspiracy in July and let off on bail last month, is likely to be arraigned as a "key accused" in the case, though they refused to divulge any more details.

Though there has been some speculation that the police fear that they don't have a strong case against Dileep, investigation officials have dismissed such reports and insisted that they have crucial evidence to implicate the actor.

Officials claimed that the final draft of the charge sheet is being scrutinised by a team of top police officers led by the state police chief Lokanath Behera, adding that a final decision on whether to make Dileep the prime accused or not will be taken only after the completion of the process.

“The draft, backed by solid evidence collected during the investigation, has been finalised and a scrutiny is being carried out to weed out loopholes, if any,” reports quoted police sources as saying.

Reports claim that Dileep has been booked under IPC 376 (d) for gang rape, 120 (b) for criminal conspiracy, 201 for destruction of evidence, 212 for harbouring a criminal, besides various provisions of the IT Act.

Meanwhile, civil police officer PK Aneesh, accused of aiding Suni to contact Dileep while in custody, has been made an approver in the case. The probe team feels that this was the last step to strengthen the case against the actor.

Dileep was arrested on charges of conspiracy in the case on July 10 and spent 85 days in the Aluva sub-jail before being let off on bail last month. Suni, who abducted and assaulted the actress in February, is the prime accused as per the existing charge sheet, while Dileep is the 11th accused.
