State Governments proposal to denotify highways in City limits rejected

The Central Land Transport and Highways Department has rejected the State Government’s proposal seeking denotification of highways in the City limits, reported Kannada Prabha.

The State Government had requested to denotify a total of 609.65 km of highway at 147 selected spots. The Central Government rejected the proposal stating that bypasses were not ready at those spots or construction not taken up at all.  A letter to this effect was written by Central Government to State Government on Aug 14.

The Central Government advocates have submitted the copy of the same letter to the High Court on Thursday. It can be recalled that over 20 bar owners had submitted applications questioning the State Excise Department’s refusal to renew the licences of bars and restaurants on M G Road, Residency Road, Brigade Road, citing they are on highways.
