FollowMan who tied his four-year-old son's genitals in rubber band has been arrested. The child had lost his mother and allegedly father was ill-treating him for wetting the ned.
Instead of treating the problem of bed-wetting, he took a drastic step and tied the son's genitals in rubber band. When after getting the news, an NGO checked upon the child in his school, they were shocked to see that the genital was bruised and swollen.
How does one address bed-wetting issues that their children may be suffering? The simplest way is to spread a water-proof sheets underneath the sheets. But here is a man, Shivanna (name changed) who tied a rubber band to his four-year-old son's genital apparently to prevent him from bed-wetting. Worse, it is reported that this was the father's way to vent his anger on his dead wife.
The Santhwana Women's Helpline personnel have now rescued the boy, Mani (name changed), who is now at the Balamandira.
It is reported that the teachers at the anganwadi saw that Mani was in deep pain and he could not urinate. Shwetha, an SWH counsellor was shocked to find Mani 's swollen and wounded genitals. When enquired, Mani said that his father had tied the rubber band to his genitals.
"Since the child's genitals was tied with a rubber band, his hands and stomach were also swollen. The child was later admitted to a Government Hospital at Periyapatna," reports The New Indian Express, quoting Shwetha. It is reported that Mani could not pass urine even after a day and worried, the anganwady staff shifted him to a hospital in Mysuru.
Shivanna, who is in his 50s, is a construction worker from Periyapatna near Mysuru. He has an eight-year-old daughter apart from Mani. It is reported that Shivanna would come home drunk and would quarrel with his wife, every day. He would even beat his wife and children. Last year, his wife passed away due to an illness and since then, Shivanna has been torturing his son Mani as he suspected that Mani was born out of his wife's illicit relationship, reports The New Indian Express. He would even burn his hands with cigarette butts.
In fact, a few days ago, Anganwadi teachers saw Mani's hands bearing cigarette butt marks and immediately lodged a complaint with Santhwana Women's Helpline. The helpline staff admitted Mani in a hospital and had put him in Bapuji Children's Home near Mysuru. However, Shivanna pleaded with the children's home authorities to send his son back. "He wanted Mani to complete some rituals of his wife's death anniversary and requested the authorities to send him home. He had even written an undertaking that he would not torture Mani in any way," reports Vijaya Karnataka quoting Helpline personnel.
It is reported that the local child development project officer has lodged an oral complaint against Shivanna and he will be arrested soon once they get a written complaint.
