Now speed governor is must in cars with yellow boards

The speed governors that was mandatory for all transport busses and heavy duty goods carriers has now been extended to old yellow board passenger cars, (M1) less than 9-seater capacity and goods carriers with less than 3.5 tonne capacity (N1). A proposal to this effect has been prepared by the State Transport Department, informed Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, reports Kannada Prabha.

All new vehicles, including yellow board cars, with less than 9-seater capacity will be compulsorily fitted with speed governors. A circular to this effect has been released by the Transport Department. The speed limit is 80 kmph. The information was shared on ‘Hello Minister’ phone-in programme by Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, on Kannada Prabha - Suvarna News channel, on Sunday.

The High Court has issued an order making it compulsory to fit speed governors to old yellow board passenger vehicles (M1) and goods vehicles with less than 3.5 tonne capacity. In this regard a proposal has been prepared to fit all vehicles with less than 9-seater capacity to be compulsorily fitted with speed governors. Vehicles violating the order will not be issued Fitness Certificates, Reddy said. Earlier only buses and heavy duty goods vehicles were fitted with speed governors. The HC order has necessitated the new rule, he said.
