NGT sets time to inspect Mantri Tech Zone encroachment of Bellandur Lake

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has instructed the State government to inspect if the Mantri Teck Zone has vacated or not the encroached area in Bellandur Lake and submit a report by Oct 12, reported Kannada Prabha.

Earlier, the Forward Foundation has informed NGT that the location inspection report was not submitted.  It can be recalled that Forward Foundation had submitted a complaint to NGT that Mantri Teck Zone had encroached Bellandur Lake area. NGT inquired into the complaint and imposed fine on Mantri Teck Zone and had issued orders to clear all civil constructions carried out in the lake area. The NGT had also ordered that 75 meters around lakes and Rajakaluves (stormwater drains) must be considered buffer zone and all constructions must be cleared in that area.

However, when the complainant Forward Foundation tried to inspect if the encroachment was cleared or not, the Mantri Teck Zone had refused to allow them into the premises. Hence Forward Foundation had appealed to NGT.

Inquiring into this complaint NGT had instructed, on Sept 8, Coordinating Committee, set up by the Karnataka Pollution Control Board to inspect the matter and submit a report by Oct 5.

On Oct 5, advocate for Forwrad Foundation Sajjan Poovaiah argued that the committee had not inspected the location and submitted the report and informed NGT that the Pollution Control Board has not followed the orders.  Hence Justice Swatantra Kumar instructed the State Government to inspect the premises and submit a report by Oct 12 and posted the next hearing for that date.
