Nandagokula Extension turns an island notice issued to encroachers of Raja Kaluve

It has been found that encroachment of Raja Kaluve (stormwater drain) is the reason for Nandagokula Extension at Thanisandra to become an island, cut off from other areas, following heavy rains last Monday.  Urban Development Minister K J George has given instructions to issue notices to all encroachers, reported Kannada Prabha.

The Minister, Mayor G Padmavathi and officials went round the extension inspecting the rain havoc and found that the Nagawara Vally Raja Kaluve was encroached and factory and other buildings were built over it. The Minister got very angry and took the officials to task for inaction even at such extent of encroachment.  He instructed the officials to issue notices to the culprits and clear the encroachment immediately, failing which stringent action would be taken against them.

Over 50 houses are flooded due to rain at Nadagokula extension. Data about the rain damage is being collected and compensation will be provided to them. The compensation amount will be decided after discussion with the officials. Mayor and the Minister inspected the bridge over Thanisandra Raja Kaluve, secondary rain water drainage canal at Kalyana Nagara and the Raja Kaluve at Hennur.  Instructions were given to clear the waste disposal unit at Tannery Road.  The officials were also told to instruct the concerned to thoroughly clean the place before handing over to BBMP.

Meanwhile, the cold war between people’s representative and the officials has resulted in putting the public to great hardship at Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Laggere Ward. The 3 and 7 roads are completely washed out due to rain and even to walk is impossible.

Added to that the sanitary pipes are blocked and the over flowing sewage since 10 days has been completely ignored by the officials. Neither the local MLA Muniratna nor BBMP ward member Manjula Narayana Swamy have shown any regard to public apathy. It is because of a cold war between them, it is alleged. Two years ago jalli stones were put on the road but a fight between the MLA and the corporator brought the work to a standstill. It has not been taken up till now.
