Mutalik threatens carnage in state if temples host Iftar meet

The issue of Pejawar seer hosting an Iftar meet at the Sri Krishna Temple in Udupi recently refuses die down. On Sunday, Sri Ram Sene chief Pramod Mutalik has threatened to unleash carnage if Krishna Mutt hosts Iftar meet in future. "We will not allow Iftar meet at the Krishna temple or mutt at any cost. We will not hesitate to shed our blood, if we have to," threatened Mutalik.

The Sene headed by Mutalik held a protest against the Iftar meet organised by Pejawar Seer Sri Vishvesha Thirtha swami at Udupi Mutt recently, in Bengaluru on Sunday. Mutalik said hosting such events at the temples or mutts will send out a wrong message to the Hindus. "This is not right. We have no problem with the seer but we certainly do not agree with his "idea" of peace and harmony, " Mutalik told reporters in Benagaluru, reports Kannada Prabha.

Meanwhile, speaking to mediapersons, Pejawar seer Sri Vishvesha Thirtha swami has condemned the Hindu organisations' outrage against Iftar meet at the Sri Krishna Mutt. On Sri Ram Sene and Hindu Jana Jagruthi planning to "purify" the Sri Krishna temple and mutt with cow urine, Pejawar outrightly said, "Why would one want to purify the mutt when nothing has been done that will deem the mutt as "impure."

"Who says the temple is impure just because Muslims offered prayers over there. They have prayed as per their tradition. Moreover, they have not gone inside the mutt. They offered prayers outside the temple at the dining hall," Pejawar seer said. He went on to say that "No religious texts or tradition oppose this. Show me which sacred texts oppose such a gesture - Allowiing one to offer prayers? Those who are making it up an issue have not understood the religion or even the religious texts. So, there is no question of "purifying' the temple or mutt," reports Kannada Prabha.

On Mutalik's therat, Pejawar seer simply denied to react to such caustic remarks. On continuation of Iftar meet at the temple, Pejawar seer said "My Paryaya will end soon. I will not comment for the future. It is up to the next seer. However, I will think of hosting Iftar meets at Pejawar mutt in future," he told reporters.
