Ashwin is from Karnataka's Mangaluru was the co-pilot of the duo that became India's first team to make it to the top slot
Indian rally drivers Amittrajit Ghosh and Ashwin Naik made a spectacular debut in the FIA European Rally Championship (ERC) taking a victory in their first-ever rally. The debutantes Ghosh-Naik drove a Ford Fiesta R2.
The duo negotiated dusty, rough and rocky mountain roads around Athens to romp home in 3 hours 34 minutes and 49.9 seconds.
While Amittrajit hails from Kolkata, Ashwin is from Karnataka's Mangaluru.
Ashwin Naik and Amittrajit Ghosh said that this was the first time that any Indian team has made it to the top slot. The victory has taken the European rallyists and the FIA with a sense of awe
"Coming here with an older generation R2, the goal was to finish. In the back of my mind I knew that if we got to the finish we'd be on the podium, but yesterday morning when I was only 2s behind [Artur] Muradian in the Peugeot I knew I could do it," NDTV quoted Amittrajit as saying.
