Hackers loot Rs 6 lakh from 8 techies' accounts in one day!

  • Cyber thieves struck at various banks on Saturday and stole money totalling Rs 6 lakh.
  • In eight cases, they used fake ATM cards to transfer money, by hacking into accounts.
  • Amounts drawn from ATM, transferred through net banking from out of state transactions.
  • Most of the thefts are from accounts belonging to techies.

With the increase in cybercrime, the Bengaluru Cyber Crime Police are having a tough time tracking cyber thieves. On Saturday as many as eight cases were reported from different persons where accounts were hacked and monies were transferred and fake ATM cards were used to withdraw, amounting to a total of Rs six lakh, reports Kannada Prabha.

The Cyber Crime police station registered as many as eight cases on Sunday, with most of the complainants being techies. Cyber thieves have hacked into the bank accounts of techies and transferred money in Hennur, HBR Layout, R T Nagar, Hulimavu, Kothanur, Bannerghatta regions. In Kammanahalli, a case of fake ATM card being used to draw money from TM has been registered.

James Sundarram of Hulimavu complained that hackers struck his bank account on June 1 night and transferred Rs 40,000. The credit card was with him when the transaction occurred. On getting intimation on his mobile, he immediately called the bank and blocked the card. The hackers had operated from out of state, said Cyber Crime Police.

Pushparani, a software engineer from HBR Layout complained to Cyber Crime police that on Saturday late night somebody had used fake ATM cards to withdraw amount to the tune of Rs 30,000 in repeated transactions from her savings account with HDFC Bank on Airport Road. She also was alerted when she received intimation on her mobile phone at around 12.47 in the night. She called the bank Help Line and blocked her card. Later, she lodged a complaint with Cyber Crime police.

A software engineer residing at R T Nagar has also complained that somebody hacked into his bank account from overseas and transferred an amount of Rs 52,000 into their account.  A complaint has been registered and investigations are on, said Cyber Crime Police. Hackers hacked into the account of another complainant from Kothanur and transferred Rs 4,000. IP address has revealed that the hackers operated from Mumbai. DCP Jinendra Kanagavi has stated that investigations are on to trace the eight reported cases involving an amount of Rs 6 lakh.
