Global terrorist, Karnataka native Shafi Armar reported dead in suicide bomb attack in Syria
- Shafi Armar was the native of Bhatkal in Karnataka and had moved to Pakistan along with his brother Sultan Armar
- Shafi was responsible for recruiting youths from India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to the IS
- His death was confirmed by the IS' propaganda news agency Amaq and SITE Intelligence Group, US
FollowGlobal terrorist Abu Yusuf-Al Hindi alias Shafi Armar (30), a native of Bhatkal in Karnataka blew himself up in Raqqa in Syria killing many. The official media channel of ISIS, Amaq Agency has confirmed that Armar was killed in suicide bombing as he targeted a few Kurdish party workers. This was also confirmed by SITE Intelligence Group, a US-based monitoring firm. However, the Indian agencies have not yet confirmed the news, reports Kannada Prabha.

Known as 'Chote Maula', 'Anjan Bhai', Armar was the first Indian to be declared Specially Designated Global Terrorist in June this year by the US.
Armar was deported to Pakistan along with his brother Sultan Armar. It was dreaded terrorist Yasin Bhatkal who first gave out clues about Armar's connection with the IS when he was arrested near Nepal in 2013. During the NIA crackdown on IS unit in Ratnam district in Madhya Pradesh, it was found that Armar was luring youths to join IS through the Jund Ul Khalifa E hind, a closed internet group.

While Shafi Armar's brother, Sultan Armar was killed in a US drone attack on Syria in 2015, Shafi Armar continued to rise the ranks in the IS. He was the head of the recruit for IS from India. It is reported that he is an important aid of IS chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
Armar was a tech-savvy and had been operating through the social media - Facebook and other personal messenger services to contact, and identity IS sympathisers, brain wash and recruit youths from India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to join the IS. Â
