Awoken up by the exposed by media at the Central Prison at Parappana Agrahara - that also vindicated former DIG (prisons) D Roopa's allegations - the state government has reportedly put the brakes on certain privileges, including the one that was extended to jailed AIADMK leader Sasikala Natarajan.

Embarrassed over the special treatment enjoyed by Sasikala at the prisons, the government has asked prison officials to treat her as other convicts, reports Kannada Prabha. Besides, Sasikala will now get to eat what other convicts are served during breakfast.

It may be recalled here that IPS officer Roopa had revealed that Sasikala was being given special treatment by the officials. She had also levelled serious charges on then DGP Satyanarayana Rao that he allegedly took a bribe to extend special treatment Sasikala. This had created quite a controversy.

Later, videos of Sasikala having an exclusive barrack for herself which included a separate kitchen, a hall with a table and four chairs and another room to keep her belongings went viral.  Some of the videos had also shown that Sasikala was wearing a salwar instead of the prison uniform and walking freely. Taking serious note of this, embarrassed Siddaramaiah government has now put an end to it, reports Kannada Prabha.

Besides, on complaints that certain inmates were enjoying food brought from outside, the government has now put the restriction on this too. The prison authorities have banned visitors getting any food for their kith or kin inside the jail. As a result, many visitors had to take back whatever eatables they had brought on Monday. According to Kannada Prabha, the visitors were allowed to give fruits and that too only four!

Meanwhile, retired bureaucrat Vinay Kumar has begun probe into the allegations of irregularities at the prison made by IPS officer D Roopa. On Tuesday, he met Chief Secretary and senior police officers. He is also expected to visit the prisons too.
