Degree colleges start classes at 8 am but no student comes

Almost all colleges in Bengaluru started their first day of new academic year late on Monday, and did not follow the changed timing of 8 am. The Collegiate Education Department had issued an order to start the classes at 8 am from this academic year 2017-18.

On the first day of the college, most of the teachers and students could not reach the colleges on time and came at their regular time 10 am as usual. The changed time table is not yet ready hence the students followed the old one. The principals of colleges had held meetings to inform the guest lecturers also to report at 8 am to work, reports Kannada Prabha.

Meanwhile, the First Grade Colleges Lecturers’ Union had met the Higher Education Minister requesting him to change the timing as students and teachers travel long distances to reach the colleges and suggested to have different timings for different colleges. The Minister assured to discuss once again with regard to change in timings and take a decision to facilitate both students and lecturers. A lecturer who was part of the team that met the Minister said it looks like the minister will revert the timings to old system.
