Bengaluru Varsity in fears bankruptcy Split

After Bengaluru University (BU) was split into three, the State Government has instructed the varsity to give funds to the two new varsities from its finance, which poses a fear of BU going bankrupt. The State Government has instructed Bengaluru University to give Rs 10 crore and Rs 15 crore to respective Bengaluru Central and Bengaluru North Universities.

However, the current finance available with Bengaluru University is only Rs 21 crore.  Already Rs 3 crore each has been released for the new varsities.  Another Rs 2 crores will be released shortly. Along with it to give another Rs 25 cr will render Bengaluru University bankrupt.

At a press meet on Saturday when quizzed about this, the Bengaluru University Finance Officer Lokesh confirmed that the State Government has instructed the varsity to release Rs 10 cr and Rs 15 cr to the new universities. Already Rs 3 cr each has been released and soon another Rs 2 crore will be released, the rest will be released in a phased manner.

When asked how the Bengaluru University will manage if it gives away all its funds, Lokesh said it is our duty to follow the government’s orders.  When asked if the government is going to return to the varsity, he simple answered that no such terms and conditions are imposed in this regard.

When posed the same question, ad hoc VC Dr M Muniraju reacted that the matter will be discussed at the syndicate meeting and bring to the notice of the government, reported Kannada Prabha.

Meanwhile, ad hoc VC Dr M Muniraju also confirmed that the hundred year old Vishweshwaraiah College of Engineering (UVCE) will come under Bengaluru University now and will be shifted to Jnana Bharathi Campus. A committee headed by Prof S A Kori, executive director, Higher Education Department, has recommended that UVCE should be shifted to Jnana Bharathi.  However, at present Jnana Bharathi does not have the infrastructure to accommodate UVCE. Hence it will be shifted next year after making all facilities available, reported Kannada Prabha.
