Currency racket: Rs three crore in old notes caught in Belagavi, RBI role alleged

Belagavi CCB police arrest 6 haul massive over Rs 3 crores old notes

The Belagavi CCB police seized old currency of Rs 500 and Rs1000 denomination amounting to Rs 3.11 crores and arrested 6 members on Monday.  

 

Acting on information the police raided Rohana Residency at Krishnadevaraya Circle and found the accused engaged in notes exchange activity.  The main accused is Anil Patel, who was collecting crores of rupees from people for attractive commission to exchange for new currency.

 

He claimed that he knew people at RBI and people with black money trusted him and exchanged money through him.

During the raid police also arrested persons who had come from Goa, Pune and Miraj to exchange old notes. The police are investigating into Anil Patel’s claim of knowing people at RBI and also the actual amount he has exchanged so far.  A case has been booked at APMC station and investigations are on.
