Mohali: In Punjab, a 26-year-old woman suspected to have contracted coronavirus was booked for fleeing from the hospital.

The woman, a resident of Mohali, had returned from the US and was taken to a government hospital in Chandigarh for a check-up.

“We got a call from the PGIMER (Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research) authorities that the woman had fled from the hospital on Thursday early morning, said Mohali station house officer Phase -8 Rajnish Chaudhary on Friday.

She had been booked under relevant sections including 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) and 188 (disobedience to order) of the IPC, he said.

The number of novel coronavirus cases in India rose to 195 on Friday after 22 fresh cases were reported from various parts of the country, according to the Health Ministry.

The cases include 32 foreign nationals including 17 from Italy, 3 from the Philippines, two from the UK, one each belonging to Canada, Indonesia and Singapore.

The figure also includes four deaths reported from Delhi, Karnataka, Punjab and Maharashtra so far.

"The total number of active COVID 2019 cases across India stands at 171 so far," the ministry said adding that 20 others have been cured/discharged/migrated while four have died.
