WikiLeaks has published reports claiming the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the US is using cyber-spying tools devised by technology provider Cross Match Technologies to discreetly extract Aadhaar data of Indian citizens.

Cross Match Technologies is the same company that provides biometric solutions to the Unique Identification Authority of India, which is the statutory body for Aadhaar, resulting in speculation over potential data leakage.

"Have CIA spies already stolen #India's national ID card database?" WikiLeaks tweeted on Friday, along with an article. In another tweet, they published an article which says "Aadhaar in the hand of spies".

However, government sources have denied the news and dismissed the report as baseless, according to a Times of India report. "The reports do not have any basis in fact. Aadhaar data is safely encrypted and is not accessible to any other agency," the report quoted the source as saying.
