Among the official accounts of Pakistan Embassies that have been banned in India include that of the United Nations, Turkey, Iran and Egypt. The account of the national public broadcaster in Pakistan 'Radio Pakistan' too was withheld.

"Account has been withheld in India in response to a legal demand," an error message displayed while opening these accounts.

However, Pakistan has criticised the step taken and expressed that it is 'deeply concerning' that India has blocked the 'flow of information' to Indian Twitter by withholding access to these official accounts.

It should also be noted that about two months back India's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had blocked 16 YouTube news channels, including six from Pakistan, for spreading fake news in India.

The ministry, in its statement, had said that these channels were being used to spread fake news over social media on matters related to India's foreign relations, national security, communal harmony and public order. Besides, none of the digital news publishers that were blocked had furnished information to the ministry as mandated under rule 18 of the IT Rules, 2021.

YouTube channels based in Pakistan were found to have been used in a coordinated manner to post fake news about India on various subjects such as Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Army and India's foreign relations in the wake of the Russia-Ukraine war.

The content of these channels was observed to be completely false, and sensitive from the perspective of security, sovereignty and integrity of India, and the country's friendly relations with foreign states.
