Police revealed that Raju and Pushpa had frequent quarrels. Pushpa had earlier filed two non‑cognisable complaints against him, one on February 13 and another shortly before the tragedy. She had moved to her hometown in Uttar Pradesh with their elder son, aged 15, but returned to Mumbai on March 14 after her Army jawan brother Kamlesh Kumar attempted to mediate peace.

Family Dispute Escalates At Mulund Station

On the day of the incident, Pushpa, Kamlesh, and her elder son reached Mulund station to travel to Kalwa. Kamlesh discovered his ATM and identity cards missing and suspected Raju had taken them. He returned home with his nephew, where a fight broke out with Raju. According to GRP, Raju locked Kamlesh and the elder son inside the house before leaving with his younger son.

Neighbors freed Kamlesh, who then reported the matter to Mulund police. When summoned, Raju switched off his phone and went directly to Mulund station. There, he tried to convince Pushpa to stay back. When she insisted on divorce, Raju allegedly pushed her in front of a Kalyan down local train.

After the incident, Raju and his younger son fled to Vangaon station and later boarded a train to Surat. GRP tracked him down and arrested him in Surat, bringing closure to a case that had shaken commuters and residents alike.
