Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will visit Kerala on August 16 to review the Coronavirus situation in the state.

The following day, the Union health minister will be visiting Assam to hold a review there.

The visit comes just days after the high-level central team gave a critical report on Covid-19 management in the state.

The panel reported glaring lapses in the state's efforts, including lack of active surveillance and abysmally low contact tracing.

Following the report, Mandaviya has been in touch with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, urging the latter to take more proactive measures and precautions to control the prevailing situation.

Kerala's Covid numbers

According to the state health department, Kerala recorded 20,452 new cases and 114 fatalities in the last 24 hours.

The Covid positivity rate of the state stood at 14.35 per cent.

A look at the district-wise statistics of positive cases showed Malappuram having the most number of cases with 3010 positive infections, followed by Kozhikode (2426), Ernakulam (2388) and Thrissur (2384).
