Mumbai court on Tuesday (July 16) remanded Mihir Shah, the main accused in the tragic Worli BMW hit-and-run case, to judicial custody until July 30. The 24-year-old son of a Shiv Sena politician was arrested after allegedly ramming his BMW into a two-wheeler, resulting in the death of 45-year-old Kaveri Nakhwa and injuring her husband, Pradip Nakhwa. The incident took place around 5:30 a.m. on Worli's arterial Anni Besant Road.

According to police investigations, Shah sped off towards the Bandra-Worli Sea Link after the collision, with Kaveri Nakhwa reportedly remaining on the bonnet of the car before becoming entangled in its wheels for over 1.5 kilometers.

A Mumbai Police official said that Shah was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. To reconstruct the events, a police team recreated the accident scene and confronted Shah with his family driver and co-accused, Rajrishi Bidawat, who was in the car during the incident. The police allege that Bidawat swapped seats with Shah on the instructions of Shah's father, Shiv Sena politician Rajesh Shah.

During interrogation, Mihir Shah admitted to being a habitual drinker. To mislead investigators, he even shaved his beard and got a haircut at a local barber shop. The Mumbai Police presented evidence to the court indicating that Shah drove the car from Girgaon to the sea link entry point at Worli.

Despite being fully aware that Kaveri Nakhwa was stuck in one of the tires, Shah continued driving recklessly. Eyewitnesses reported that motorists frantically signaled and shouted at Shah to stop, but he ignored their pleas and drove on.
