The Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said his photograph should be placed on 'death certificates'.

Addressing the media in Kolkata, the TMC supremo said that the state government would be extending COVID-19 restrictions in the state till August 30. Taking the jibe, she said one might not support PM Modi, but he has made it mandatory that his photo should be on the COVID-19 vaccine certificates. She further said that PM Modi should also allow his image to be used on the death certificate.

The Opposition has, over time, slammed and mocked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the photograph of the prime minister on vaccination certificates.
Previously, the TMC MP Derek O'Brien had approached the Election Commission and alleged that the ruling party was undermining the role of healthcare workers. He had urged the election body to issue directives with removing PM's photograph from vaccination certificates.

However, the BJP justified the move and said the initiative was taken to create awareness about COVID-19 appropriate behaviour even after vaccination.
In other news, West Bengal CM Banerjee said that local train services would remain suspended even though night curfew timings have been reduced by two hours. She further added that no night activities would be allowed between 11 pm and 5 am.
