Twitter had recently suspended the former MP's account for violating its privacy policy. Dev and several other prominent Congress leaders changed their display picture to Rahul Gandhi’s and shared the same photograph for which the latter's account was blocked. The photograph showed Rahul with the parents of a nine-year-old girl who was allegedly raped and murdered in Delhi.

Sushmita represented Silchar seat in Assam's largely Bengali-speaking Barak till she was defeated by the BJP’s Rajdeep Roy in the 2019 general elections.

According to sources, there is a possibility that she may become the face of the Trinamool Congress in Assam.
