Kerala: Fourth Maoist killed in police encounter
A thunderbolt team of the Kerala Police on Monday eliminated three alleged Maoists, including a woman, after an exchange of fire in Palakkad forest area
Palakkad: Three Maoists, including a woman, were shot dead in an encounter with the police in the forests of Attappadi in Kerala’s Palakkad district on Monday. According to the latest report, the state police on Tuesday gunned down a fourth extremist in the forest.
According to reports, the killed Maoists are identified as Suresh, Karthik and Sreemathi. They hail from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The fourth person's identity is unknown.
The Thunderbolt team, Kerala’s commando force mainly engaged in anti-naxal drive, was on a regular combing operation in Attappadi region on Monday. At the time, a gang of Maoists spotted the police team and fired at the cops.
In the incident, none of the policemen were injured. Police suspect that at least five people in the Maoist gang were also injured.
In a similar incident, in March this year, a Maoist identified as CP Jaleel (30) was shot dead by the Thunderbolt team in Wayanad, when he along with other members of the gang tried to extort money from a resort. Jaleel was a native of Pandikkad in Malappuram district.
