Karnataka: Teacher deputed on Vidyagama duty dies of COVID-19

Moodabidri teacher who had tested positive for COVID-19 passed away on Friday, October 16. Earlier this week Minister Suresh Kumar had assured that the full cost of her treatment would be borne by the government.

Moodabidri: A Moodabidri teacher who had tested positive for COVID-19 has passed away on Friday, October 16.

The deceased Padmakshi and her husband, who also happens to be a teacher contracted the infection during one of their visits to teach children under the state government’s Vidyagama scheme.

The couple’s daughter, Aishwarya, through a social media post, highlighted the plight of her parents and sought help during the crisis.

Their daughter’s social media post caught the attention of the media and the citizens of Karnataka forcing the government to stop the Vidyagama scheme immediately.

Responding to her appeal, Minister for Education Suresh Kumar had assured that the full cost of their treatment would be borne by the government and had directed Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner and Deputy Director of Public Education Department to take good care of the teachers.

Suresh Kumar added that the Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa had also spoken to the Deputy Commissioner and instructed him to take all necessary steps to treat the teacher.

While Padmakshi’s husband has recovered from the infection, the former fell victim to the infection leaving behind her husband and daughter.
