The South Indian breakfast staple, the humble dosa is India’s favourite breakfast option. People across eight major metros are gobbling up and ordering this crispy, flaky Indian dish, a survey revealed after reviewing more than 1200 online restaurant orders.

Dosa is the most preferred dish for those living in Delhi, Pune, Mumbai, Chenni, Hyderabad and Bengaluru. While those in Pune, Bengaluru and Mumbai like to order themselves a plate of masala dosa, those in other cities like it plain.
The survey also found that traditional breakfast options are still being consumed in India. Those in the metros opt for dishes like chole bhature, poha, parathas and sabudana khichdi. Dieticians say that traditional Indian breakfasts are nutritious as they contain protein, carbohydrates and fibre.
Srivats T S, vice-president of marketing at Swiggy told Times of India, “Breakfast orders are picking up pace and the segment is posting strong growth numbers. Indians know the importance of breakfast but probably, their hectic schedule makes it difficult for them to prepare the morning meal.”
